We understand that it is not always easy to bring your pet to the vets and there are many instances where a home visit is preferable. With this in mind, we have an animal ambulance and endeavour to make home visits available whenever they are requested.
Fond Farewells is a unique service to help you say goodbye to your pet in a way that suits you. We take great pride at this difficult time and will always handle your pet with the respect and dignity they deserve. We aim to tailor our service to suit you and your pet, even giving your pet the opportunity to stay in their own home, surrounded by their familiar toys and peaceful surroundings.
Westover Vets runs in conjunction with Norwich Night Vets service based in Taverham. This is the only animal hospital in the area where a vet and nurse team work throughout the night to ensure you will be seen immediately and your pets will receive dedicated care round the clock. The service has enabled us to provide a level of care to our patients unrivalled in the area, reduces the costs to our clients of out of hours appointments and ensures our patients are monitored and cared for 24/7. The service has proven to be exceptional and raised the standard of out of hours care that we are able to offer our patients in comparison to the traditional on call provision available at many practices.

Vaccination and Neutering
- Kennel cough
Our vaccination protocol for kittens and cats starts as early as 9 weeks of age and is completed 3-4 weeks later. We vaccinate indoor cats against cat flu, but offer a Feline Leukaemia Virus vaccine as well for those who venture outside. Feline Leukaemia (FeLV) is a fatal condition passed between cats through mutual grooming or fighting and for this reason we recommend all outdoor cats are vaccinated against the disease. The vaccines we use in cats provide protection against:
- Panleucopaenia Virus
- Rhinotracheitis Virus
- Feline Leukaemia Virus
A complimentary Vaccination Record Card is given out with each initial vaccination and we provide a complimentary service of vaccination reminders via card and text messaging to assist you in planning your visits and keeping your vaccinations up to date. Booster vaccinations are also an opportunity for your pet to have a full health check and examination with the vet.
“Should I have my dog neutered”
As a practice we strive to ensure that our new puppies get the best footing in life. We recognise the need for proper socialisation and training and for this reason we work closely with a fully qualified canine behaviourist. We are the only practice to offer a free 4 week socialisation course, led by our canine behaviourist Ann Beevers, with every puppy vaccination course. These are held at our behavioural suite, away from the normal hustle and bustle of the waiting room and provide invaluable socialisation, training and guidance in a controlled environment.
Puppy and kitten health checks can be carried out by one of our registered nurses. We can provide you with lots of essential information regarding parasite control, neutering, socialisation, insurance and vaccination needs.
As your pet ages their needs change and disease processes can begin to show early signs. Talk to one of our nurses about altering nutritional needs and common signs of disease to look out for. We can run blood and urine tests in-house for routine screening or if a disease is suspected.
Sexing young cats, rabbits and guinea pigs can be a bit of a challenge! Bring your youngsters along to a nurse clinic and we will sex them for you free of charge!
Dental disease is a very common problem in our pets. Bring your pet along to a free dental check with one of our nurses and we can demonstrate how to clean your pets teeth and discuss other preventative measures you can use. We can also advise you if a surgical dental procedure is needed for your pet and explain what is involved. Cat Dental Problems
Rabbits are very popular pets with specific care needs. Our nurses can advise you on correct feeding, weight control and all-important dental care for your bunny, all free of charge. We also provide an incisor trimming service for those rabbits that need it.
Undertaking claw clipping can be difficult in the home but it is sometimes necessary for older pets that may not exercise as much any more. Our nurses clip nails on dogs, cats and rabbits during routine clinic appointments.
Our surgeons use dissolvable sutures for most routine operations, however sometimes sutures or staples are used that need removing. Our nurses carry this out in a free of charge consultation.
Microchipping is the best way of ensuring your pet can be identified and returned to you if they become lost or stolen. A microchip is inserted under the skin, giving your pet a unique code which can be scanned and matched to the owner. Pet and owner details will be registered immediately by the nurse on a national database so your pet will be registered before you leave the practice! Microchipping for dogs is to become compulsory in 2016.
For pets that are already microchipped, remember to update your details with the database if you move house.
Westover are working closely with RCW to offer weight clinics providing expert care and advise for your dog or cat. Obesity is a major problem in our pets and can increase the likelihood of diseases such as diabetes and heart conditions. Our advice and support materials are free of charge and we stock a full range of diet foods. Don’t delay, book in for a weight clinic today!
Parasite control is important for the well-being of your pet and the whole family. Our registered nurses can offer you advice on flea, worm and tick prevention and discuss which the best product for your individual pet is. We are also happy to apply the product for you.
Anal glands- never the most pleasant of subjects, but our nurses are able to express glands at a reduced charge compared with a veterinary consultation
Behavioural problems are often some of the most difficult issues to rectify in our pets, but some of the most important to address. For this reason we endeavour to give our puppies the best footing in life by encouraging them to be enrolled in puppy socialisation classes which are run onsite and are included in the cost of their initial vaccination course. They are run by Ann Beevers , a qualified dog behaviourist, and have proven to be very beneficial and also very enjoyable. We are fortunate to have Ann, a behaviourist and dog trainer, available for referrals at the surgery 5 days a week and it means we are well placed to try and manage any potential behavioural problems your dog might have. If you ever require further information or would like to speak to Ann regarding your pet then please contact us at the surgery and we will arrange an appointment.
