New arrivals – kittens born in the rain

Last week a worried client came rushing into the surgery with a new born kitten around 12 hours old.

I checked her over, she was wet, very cold and still had the placenta attached to her umbilical cord. Sarah and I clamped, tied off and removed this after warming her up on a covered examination glove filled with hot tap water. I rubbed her dry and she soon came to life. Her mum had given birth to her 4 kittens in the rain as she was a stray and this very kind client has been feeding her and didn’t realise she was pregnant.

A lovely lady from the Cats Protection League came and collected the cat and her kittens. She phoned us later that today to say that the cat had given birth to another kitten making the total 5!
